Gravity Waves, Big Bang, Universe ...

One looks at the headline, it seems reasonable and plausible. One goes through the article, and ends up wondering, what makes humans think reason and ideas, built on the edifice so far, is all it takes to comprehend everything across time and space through universe? If direct perception were possible,  it could all be completely different  - and why not? Every time knowledge of universe took a quantum leap, it was only because a new theory went at an angle so at odds to the older one, it threw all science till date into turmoil, with reactions ranging from minds agape to hostility to downright inquisition! Think Galileo, Newton and Kepler, Einstein and his relativity theory,  and his own reaction to quantum theory. So could it be about the singularity of the big bang too, and has anyone considered it seriously that the big bang might just be a recurring phenomena? Not the absolute moment zero, that is?
